Shagbark Hickory

Shagbark hickory, Carya ovata, this one is by the St. Lawrence and probably was planted on purpose to provide food for travelers by someone from the First Nations.
 Shagbark hickory - strips of bark hang off, large compound leaves
 nut with husk
Old nuts from last year with husks off.
